COMU is one of many units worldwide that monitor government-owned companies. COMU has been active in leading the establishment of the International Network of Government Ownership Agencies (INGOA), a worldwide network of organisations with a similar monitoring function.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an important international forum for sharing best practice in policy frameworks for government-owned companies. COMU keeps in touch with the work of the OECD. Publications such as OECD Guidelines on Corporate Governance of State-owned Enterprises are important reference documents for COMU.
INGOA was formed in 2005 as a mutually beneficial, non-political association of governmental shareholding and/or monitoring organisations. Its purpose is to enable government organisations concerned with the practice of government ownership of enterprises to improve their performance by learning from each others' experience and knowledge. The network is concerned with practical issues and aims to be as informal as possible.
We are looking to relaunch INGOA in 2012. In the meantime, enquires for information sharing or for including in this network should be directed to us at info@comu.govt.nz.
