The New Zealand Institute for Plant & Food Research Ltd (Plant & Food Research)Plant & Food Research was formed on 1 December 2008 as a result of the amalgamation between two CRIs, New Zealand Institute for Crop & Food Research Ltd (Crop & Food Research) and The Horticulture and Food Research Institute of New Zealand Ltd (HortResearch). Plant & Food Research holds a significant proportion of the research capability that underpins plant-based foods in New Zealand. The company has extensive scientific expertise in the areas of sustainable production, elite genetics and smart breeding, and food for health. It has a strongly developing international policy, with bases in Europe, the United States and Australia, based largely around new cultivar licensing, behind-border fruit production, fruit, food and environmental research consultancies, biotechnology and food commercialisation. The company is strong in collaborative research on cereals, vegetables and food for health and nutrition in Australia.
