Briefings to Incoming Ministers
Page updated 2 Feb 2012
The Cabinet Manual requires that, when a new Minister is appointed, the chief executive of the department concerned must ensure that, as soon as the Minister takes up office, he or she is briefed on the department and the portfolio. The briefing process can include formal documents as well as meetings and other communications, and could be happening over a number of weeks. The formal documentation associated with this briefing has become known as the Briefing to Incoming Ministers (BIM). This section provides copies of BIMs that have been released by the Minister.
