Corporate Social Responsibility

Page updated 20 Nov 2010

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about the way a company conducts its business. This is not just about visible programmes but also, and perhaps more importantly, about behaviours and values evident in a company’s day to day operations. This page provides information on the CSR framework as it relates to state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

Corporate Social Responsibility for SOEs

The 2007 October cabinet paper (and associated minutes) outlines the CSR framework for SOEs. This outlines expectations that the Shareholding Ministers have for SOEs in relation to their obligation to exhibit a sense of social responsibility as required by the State-Owned Enterprises Act 1986. The paper also refers to the Mercury Energy disconnection case involving the late Mrs Folole Muliaga.
