Mixed Ownership Model for Crown Companies

The Government has decided to extend the mixed ownership model to four state-owned energy companies and to reduce the Crown's majority shareholding in Air New Zealand. The Mixed Ownership Model applies to companies partly owned by the Crown and partly owned by private investors. Air New Zealand has operated along these lines since 2002. As a result the Government is now making a series of share offers, beginning with Mighty River Power.

The Government Share Offer programme is a three to five year programme starting in 2012. Treasury is now undertaking work preparing Mighty River Power, Meridian Energy, Genesis Power and Solid Energy New Zealand for initial public offering as part of the government share offers programme and reducing the Government’s majority stake in Air New Zealand.
